Depends on a couple of things. Rule of thumb Your 5 iron in the center of your stance…6-pw progressively further back in your stance. 4,3, progressively forward….when I say progressive I mean like an inch per club……However if you want to hit the ball low everything moves back in your stance. There’s a lot of configurations and variations to shots so you will have to figure out what works best for you and the distances as well.
Poor ball position is the greatest cause of poor ball contact with amateur golfers. If you’re hitting the ball too fat, it’s too far up in your stance. If you keep topping it or hitting it thin, it’s probably a little too far back. The post above is right about ball position and club selection.
unless your hitting a knockdown shot the ball should never be behind the middle of your stance, with short irons wedges and such it should be in the middle or slightly forward, then move progresively forward as you use a longer club, for example your 6 iron should be halfway between the middle of your stance and your left heal, your driver should be teed in line with your left heal, remember when you swing you transfer all your weight to your left foot, and also your divot should be infront of the ball. you should also put the ball forward in your stance when you putt as well, best of luck
Some of the alleged “advice” on here makes me laugh. Keep it simple. Play all normal shots off the logo on the left ****** of your shirt and progressively widen your stance (slightly less than shoulder width for a wedge, up to shoulder width for your driver) the longer the club. Good luck!
If you want to hit the ball higher, then put it in the front of your stance. If you want to hit the ball lower, then you put the ball in the back of your stance. For the basic setup, though, it depends for each club. You driver should be right off the inside of your front foot and then go closer to your back foot as you decrease your clubs.
Here is a golf school that has some great golf tips. They have video, animation and other types of golf tips. You may find some tips that will help you with your question about your body position when hitting the ball.
What up momma? Anyway, it has been said that you play the driver off the left heel, if your right handed; opposite if you are left handed. The ball position changes progressively as you go down in the clubs. Iron shots are played toward the middle of your stance. Wedge shots are played further back in your stance to get the right amount of spin.
